Forty Days Mass

Mass: 40 Days and 40 Nights

NEW: In January 2018 the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) published my Mass: Forty Days and Forty Nights for SATB unaccompanied (with piano for rehearsal).

This new and expressive short Mass for Lent was written for the choir of St Saviour's Church, St Albans and was first performed at the evening Mass on Ash Wednesday, 1 March, 2017 by the choir, directed by John Winter.

The Mass uses the melody of the favourite Lenten hymn, Forty Days and Forty Nights, imitating the polyphonic style of the Renaissance.  References to the melody and harmony of this hymn are made throughout. In addition the Agnus Dei is a homage to William Byrd, weaving in themes from the Agnus Dei of his own four-part Mass.

Copies may be purchased from the RSCM shop, where the complete score may be viewed. Click here

This page will eventually detail more of my own compositions of sacred music.
